Winkit – The women's toolkit for the identification and recognition of informal learning

Duration: 2 years (December 2007 – December 2009)

 

 

Project is based upon the fact that women have a lot of non formal and informal knowledge, skills and competences which they acquire outside the working environment through care for the family, housekeeping or with activities in the social environment. However this knowledge and skills, although very valuable, are not recognized and appreciated even by women themselves, not by their social environment, by the labor market or the educational system.

 

 

Aims

 

  • Aim of the project Winkit is to develop methods and tools, which will as a toolkit enable women to recognize their own (hidden) competences acquired in domestic in wider social environment.
  • With the help of recognized and mapped competences women will be able to present their competences independently in social, working and educational context. In this way they will contribute to the establishment of their non formally and informally gained knowledge.
  • We will ensure that in the long term the methods and approaches that will be developed to construct our »women's tool kit for identification and recognition of informal learning« can be transferred and adapted to the use of both men or women.

 

 

Target group

 

Target group are women with low education from 18 years of age onwards who are unemployed or only working part time. In Slovenia we will concentrate on unemployed women with low education level.

 

 

Phases of the project

 

Three stages have been identified:

 

  • Self-recognition

Facilitating self-expression of competencies acquired in non formal and informal contexts by the target groups themselves.

  • Peer group and social recognition

Mapping these skills and competences to the “European key competences for lifelong learning” and making them visible.

  • Institutional recognition

 Facilitating the transition towards institutional recognition (certification, validation) within specified European territorial contexts.
