ABATA - Assessment Based Training for Human Resources in Tourism
Programme: Leonardo da Vinci, transfer of innovation
Duration: 2 years (Dec 2007 - Dec 2009)
Abata is a project whose aim is to design a package of tests and questionnaires to assess chosen competences of employees on one hand and on another to offer training of lacking competences. A part of the assessment tool will be 'Choices' assessment centre whose materials will be transferred from the Irish partner, Ballymun Job Centre. The tests will be available online and the training will be blended (a combination of classical and e-learning). E-assessment and training will cover both hard knowledge and skills (foreign languages, computer skills...) and soft skills and competences (organization, communication, creativity, leadership...).
The purpose is to help companies to obtain an economical (time- and money-wise) and professional assessment of the personnel's potential (existing employees and candidates), and on the basis of the results also tailor-made training programmes. The aim is to enhance the competitiveness and successfulness of organizations, especially SMEs, who often have limited possibilities of investment in their human resources.
The advantages of the tools and methods are to enable the organizations to get:
- a good overview of the potentials and competences of the personnel,
- training programmes developed on the basis of professional assessment, not only a feeling,
- individualised, goal-oriented training (instead of one programme for the whole group)
- economical and accessible assessment and training (that can be to a large extent performed at a workplace).
The employees benefit from better career management and greater satisfaction.
Phases of the project:
- the survey of key competences of chosen positions
- design of e-tool for assessment
- training design
- pilot testing of e-assessment and training on a sample of employees in tourist companies
- evaluation
- dissemination of results
